Greg Ballard serves as an advisory partner at August Leadership with a focus on the group’s expansion in the West, providing counsel on its efforts on gaming, private equity and digital media. He also is an investor and consultant with Eleven Ventures, where he serves as a general partner.
Greg’s last operating role was as the senior vice president of Social, Mobile and Emerging Platforms at Warner Bros. There he led and oversaw the business and strategy of the studio’s mobile games business worldwide and was instrumental in the creation of Warner’s mobile publishing and development effort in San Francisco.
Over his distinguished career in the gaming, entertainment and multimedia industries, Greg has served as President and CEO at Glu Mobile (NASDAQ: GLUU), a publicly traded company that is a leader in the mobile games business. Ballard led the Company’s IPO; CEO at then publicly traded SONICblue, makers of ReplayTV and Rio digital music players; CEO at MyFamily.com, a company that was later renamed Ancestry.com which he managed through the downturn in the dot com era; and CEO at 3Dfx Interactive where, over a three-year period, he grew the company from $4 million to an annualized rate of more than $400 million and took the company through its IPO.
He previously served as CEO and COO for Warner Custom Music, a division of Time Warner, Inc. Greg was also president of Capcom Software, the U.S. subsidiary known for hits such as Street Fighter, Mega-Man and Resident Evil, as well as COO and CFO of Digital Pictures.
Greg has served as an independent director on a number of private boards, including xFire, an online gaming platform and community purchased by Viacom in April 2006, and on the public boards of DTS, Inc (sold to Xperi), THQ, Pinnacle Systems (sold to Avid) and IGN (sold to Great Hill). He currently sits on the Board of Directors of Turtle Beach (NASDAQ:HEAR).
He holds a B.A. from the University of Redlands and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
