Michael Maeder is a Partner at August Leadership, with 17 years of experience in executive search, specializing in C-suite, general management, regional, and functional leadership roles. Michael’s career began in Shanghai, where he focused on Asian markets, and later expanded globally with a base in Munich. He has successfully supported clients in diverse sectors, including consulting, industrial, technology, consumer goods, and life sciences. Born in China and a German national, Michael’s international perspective is reinforced by his academic background, including an MSc in International Management from the Rotterdam School of Management, where he graduated with distinction. Michael’s career began in supply chain consulting, followed by founding two award-winning consulting firms in China, focusing on the industrial and technology sectors. He later co-founded Asia Growth Partners, a management consulting practice dedicated to helping companies expand across Asia.
Michael’s deep expertise in leadership strategy and his ability to understand the complexities of both local and global markets allow him to advise clients on high-stakes board and CEO appointments that significantly impact organizational growth. His leadership and advisory work have been instrumental in driving alignment and transformation at key moments in his clients’ growth journeys.
As a co-author of “Human Resources in China,” Michael is also an active thought leader. He serves as a China Ambassador for the German Chancellor Fellowship, awarded by the Humboldt Foundation, and has held leadership roles such as a Board Member of the German Chamber of Commerce in China. He also co-founded the German Young Leaders Organization in Shanghai, strengthening the network of emerging leaders between Germany and China.
